Close the Gasp Wellness

Boise, Idaho

Dani Shedden, MS, LPC, NCC, CCISM

It all begins with an idea. Counseling and Mental Health Education by a mental health professional that not only understands wildland fire, but has been on the line. Access to care should be easy.

My background not only includes working in the mental health field, but as a wildland firefighter for the Bureau of Land Management and the United States Forest Service. I have served as a Peer Supporter, Peer Lead, and Coordinator for the Critical Incident Stress Management Interagency programs.

One of my core values is taking care of people, I continue to do this work outside the land agencies as a CISM Clinician, Mental Health Educator, and as a Human Factors Facilitator for Fireline Leadership courses with Mission Centered Solutions.

Dreaming Earth

Gretchen Hingley (MS), Professional Counselor Associate

I offer nature-based counseling and transformative experiences for community members & wildland firefighters through the pathways of personal intensives, dreamwork, community fire circles, and rites of passage ceremonies.

My love for the outdoors guided me towards my work with Federal and National Wildland Fire Fighting agencies first as a wildland firefighter, and later as counselor. The transformative qualities of the wilderness strongly influenced my development as a teacher and rites of passage guide. My passion for working with people, fueled my desire to receive a Masters in Mental Health Counseling, and later to teach counseling and addiction studies at Central Oregon Community College. My experience working with community and Tribal mental health agencies since 2000, has helped me understand the deep gift of resilience and healing, which resides within everyone.

Wildland Firefighter Foundation

Boise, Idaho

The Wildland Firefighter Foundation’s main focus is to help the families of firefighters killed in the line of duty and to assist injured firefighters and their families. We honor and acknowledge the past, present, and future members of the wildland firefighting community, and partner with private and interagency organizations to bring recognition to wildland firefighters.

Wildland firefighters represent the diversity of the land they protect.  They are federal, state, and local firefighters, contract firefighters, and volunteers from rural communities and towns across the United States.  Many are long-time career professionals, some much newer to the job. They are ordinary people doing an extraordinary job, a community of committed individuals who work and train to protect our private and public lands.

Grassroots Wildland Firefighters

The Grassroots Wildland Firefighter Committee is dedicated to promoting and advocating for Federal Wildland Fire personnel titled Forestry Technicians and Range Technicians. Our mission is to advocate for proper classification, pay, benefits and comprehensive well being. Our mission is to educate the public, generate support and provide solutions to our federal representatives through policy reform.
